History Made!
For the first time in history the 2022 Women’s British Open will be held at Muirfield. The club had been heavily criticised for not allowing female golfers to become members of the club and as a result, lost its opportunity to host the Open Championship. Muirfield last held the Open back in 2013 when Phil Mickelson shot one of the rounds of his career, to take the Claret Jug by three shots from Henrik Stenson.
However, in 2017 and for the first time in the club’s 275 year history they voted to admit female members and now will host their first Women’s Open this week. One of many changes we have seen in golf over recent years and a hugely positive one at that. Can Anna Nordqvist defend her title won last year at Carnoustie? Or will a British winner prevail?
Talking of Carnoustie or Car-nasty as some might say (weather depending of course!) I once made it to final qualifying for the Women’s Open which was due to be held at Carnoustie back in 2011. See a very young looking action shot of myself below, although a slightly nervous look possibly?!

Sadly I didn’t qualify after shooting +6 round Panmure (excellent course if you ever get the chance!). I think the carved drive out of bounds right on the par 5 second didn’t get me off to a good start. We’ll blame it on that anyway!
A MAJOR WIN FOR BROOKE!
Staying with women’s golf, Brooke Henderson took the Evian Championship two weeks ago with a very impressive score of -17 on a difficult (and hilly!) golf course in France. The Canadian held her nerve to birdie the final hole and win by one shot from Sophie Schubert after an up and down final round. Brooke now has 16 wins, two of which are majors, all at the tender age of 24. Impressive CV with plenty more to come!
It’s great to see women’s golf in such a strong position, it’s come a long way in the last few years and rightly so. We’re looking forward to watching this action on the Muirfield links this week!
